U.N. Reports: No One Wants to Live on a Farm Anymore

According to a recent NYTimes article, the U.N. reports that by next year, more than half the world’s population will for the first time live in urban areas.

The urban population growth will be in smaller, developing cities, particularly in Africa and South America, that don't have adequate resources to provide proper sanitation and drinking water. This means the cities will smell like a giant toilet. Lack of government aid for basic necessities also creates a violent system in which one man must fend for himself. On the semi-bright side the report says, “Cities concentrate poverty, but they also represent the best hope of escaping it.”

NYC is ranked no. 5 in the world's most populous metropolitan areas with over 16 million people.
Mexico City, Mexico wins the race with over 18 million.
